About EigenCloud (prev. EigenLayer)

EigenCloud (formerly EigenLayer) is a protocol enabling the sharing of existing Ethereum security. Its objective is to allow new decentralized services, such as oracles and sidechains, to leverage Ethereum's robust security without the need to establish their own independent validator networks. Founded by Sreeram Kannan and a team of researchers and engineers, EigenCloud introduces a novel approach termed "restaking." Validators who stake ETH on Ethereum can opt to restake their staked ETH on EigenCloud to secure various services.
